A simple portfolio website for Massachusetts-based artist Adrian Almquist, highlighting his most recent collection of ceramics and weavings.
Completed at High Desert Test Sites near Joshua Tree National Park, the collection draws inspiration from the residency’s surrounding landscape. In particular, the ceramic works were formed from impressions of driftwood and stones Adrian foraged on walks through the desert.
My role was end-to-end: from concept and art direction, to design and prototyping, to production and web development.
In keeping with the stark simplicity of the works’ desert origins, the site photography omits any background information, leaving the works to float at an ambiguous scale — like rocky outcrops in an otherwise sandy, barren expanse.
Simple image carousels allow the user to turn the works over and around, looking them over as if they’d been plucked from the desert floor.
